Middle Years Model /middle-years-model/ Thu, 02 May 2024 00:29:23 +0000 /?p=3986 We are planning some changes to our Grades 6,7 & 8 program for the upcoming year. The three teachers involved and I have been planning for more of a middle years model, with teachers specializing in subject areas and teaching across grade levels. After looking at the different aspects of this change, we are excited to move this project forward. This shift will allow teachers to track individual and class progress within a subject area over multiple years. Most importantly, it will provide students with opportunities to increase their independence and organization in preparation for their years beyond our school. Students in Grades 5, 6 and 7 have been made aware of this change and seem excited by the opportunity to interact with all three teachers at different times throughout their days.

Here is the breakdown of teaching assignments:

Mrs. Rayner: Grade 6, 7 & 8 Math, Grade 8 Ela, Grade 8 Religion, Mrs. Toews: Grade 6 & 7 ELA, Grade 7 Religion, Grade 6,7 & 8 Health, Grade 6 Art, Grade 7 & 8 STEM, Mrs. Seaman: Grade 6, 7 & 8 Science, Grade 6,7 & 8 Social Studies, Grade 6 Religion

Although we don’t anticipate these roles changing, there could be some slight shifts in assignments. We will keep students and families apprised of any movement. With the loss of shops programming last year, we are also hoping to continue with our STEM programming with the addition of some “shops-like” opportunities for our Grade 7 & 8 students.

Specialty Area Teachers will remain the same:

Ms. Millet: Grade 7 & 8 Art, Grade 6, 7 & 8 Music; Madame Curwain: Grade 6, 7 & 8 French; Mr. McInnis: Grade 6, 7 & 8 Phys Ed.

I am certain there will be some kinks to work out as we navigate this new system. We are looking forward to working with students and families to provide this enhanced experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
